Dashboard is een interessante nieuwe toevoeging die het gebruik van kleine toepassingen genaamd â€˜widgetsâ€™ mogelijk maakt. Dit zijn kleine raampjes zonder eigen menubalk die kleine, handige, programmatjes uitvoeren die gemakkelijk door gebruikers te maken zijn. In Tiger bevinden de widgets zich in een aparte laag die indien gewenst boven op het actieve blad geplaatst wordt. Dit is meteen ook het nadeel, de widgets kunnen bijvoorbeeld niet op het bureaublad geplakt worden.

De extra aandacht die Apple besteedt aan metadata en de typering van bestanden, komt in de praktijk van het gebruik vooral naar voren in Spotlight. Spotlight is een systeemdienst die zoekopdrachten naar objecten in het bestandssysteem afhandelt. Iedere eigenschap kan worden opgegeven als zoekterm, vandaar ook de nadruk op het zo breed mogelijk houden van de kenmerken die worden bewaard. Door gebruik van gecombineerde eisen, kunnen al snel gecompliceerde zoekopdrachten worden ingegeven. Spotlight maakt gebruik van een grote index waarin informatie over alle bestanden wordt opgeslagen. Omdat het ondoenlijk is om iedere zoveel tijd alle bestanden op de harde schijf te indexeren, wordt de bestandsindex automatisch bijgewerkt bij veranderingen. Wel is het zo dat alleen bestanden die door de Tiger-kernel worden verwerkt ook geÃ¯ndexeerd worden; in geval van bijvoorbeeld een gedeelde map moet deze wel apart worden geÃ¯ndexeerd.

Ook andere uitgeverijen zouden hun sites aan de Apple-tablet aanpassen.

De afwezigheid van Flash-ondersteuning is een heikel punt bij de iPhone en de iPad. Apple-ceo Steve Jobs heeft zich meerdere malen tegen het gebruik van Adobes Flash uitgesproken en hij zou de technologie 'verouderd' en 'cpu-intensief' genoemd hebben. Dit laatste zou bij de iPhone voor een aanzienlijk kortere accuduur zorgen, zou Jobs onder andere tegen vertegenwoordigers van The Wall Street Journal gezegd hebben.Blijkbaar heeft de topman een luisterend oor gevonden, want AllThingsDigital schrijft dat de WSJ zijn lezers een Flash-vrije voorpagina gaat voorschotelen. Op de overige pagina's zou het Flash-gebruik drastisch teruggebracht worden. Ook National Public Radio zou Flash voor iPad-gebruikers in de ban gedaan hebben: de site detecteert of iemand met Apples tablet verbinding met de site maakt en past de weergave daarop aan. Een handvol andere grote uitgeverijen zou websites op dezelfde manier voor iPad-gebruik optimaliseren.

Steeds meer partijen lijken het gebruik van Flash te willen terugdringen. Vorige week maakte Virgin America al bekend dat het Flash-content van zijn site heeft verwijderd om het iPhone-gebruikers gemakkelijker te maken via zijn site voor vluchten te laten inchecken. De videosites YouTube en Vimeo zijn beide aan het experimenteren met de video-tag die waarschijnlijk wordt opgenomen in de html 5-specificatie en die gebruik zal maken van de ingebouwde ondersteuning voor videocodecs in browser.Er is informatie verschenen over een nieuwe tablet van Asus die over iets lagere specificaties beschikt dan de Transformer Prime en dus waarschijnlijk ook goedkoper aangeboden zal worden. De TF300T krijgt minder geheugen en is dikker.Van de betreffende tablet verscheen eerder al een foto, maar nu zijn op de Poolse site Tabletowo meer specificaties online gekomen via een screenshot van de vermeende Asus-tabletlijn. De TF300T heeft net als de huidige Prime een 10"-scherm met 1280x800-resolutie en er is een connector voor het dockingstation met keyboard,

De Tegra 3 draait echter op 1,2GHz in plaats van 1,3GHz en er is slechts 16GB in plaats 32GB of 64GB opslaggeheugen aanwezig. Tevens mist de led-flash voor de camera en is de opgegeven accuduur 8,5 uur zonder, en 12 uur met dockingstation. Bij de originele Prime, met typenaam TF200T, zijn deze waarden respectievelijk 9,5 en 18 uur. Bovendien is de nieuwe versie volgens het screenshot 9,9mm dik en dat is dikker dan het origineel, dat 8,3mm meet. Tenslotte weegt de tablet 640gram, meer dan de 582 gram van de Prime.Wat de prijs gaat worden, is nog niet bekend maar mogelijk volgt de introductie op het Mobile World Congress dat eind februari in Barcelona plaatsvindt. Daar laat Asus dan mogelijk ook meer los over de TF700T, die een resolutie van 1920x1200 gaat krijgen. De tablet werd op de CES getoond met een Tegra 3, maar zal volgens het screenshot met een Qualcomm-dualcore op 1,5GHz geleverd worden.Volgens een inmiddels verwijderde tweet van de Duitse MediaMarkt gaat de tablet van Apple iPad heten en zal deze los 900 euro kosten. In combinatie met een abonnement van T-Mobile moet het apparaat 500 euro opbrengen. De MediaMarkt ontkent.
